Kensington Soccer Club’s U19 Women’s team finished second place in the Kicking Out Transphobia Tournament, following a 5-2 defeat to the Lady Bandits at the South Philadelphia SuperSite.

Hosted by the Philadelphia Falcons and CASA Soccer League, this charity tournament served to raise awareness and funds for members of the Transgender community, who historically have been discriminated against and excluded from participating in sport.

Update: As of Aug. 25, $5,137 was raised from the tournament, benefitting Resources for Human Development Morris Home, The Rainbow Room, and Trans Lifeline.

KSC Women kicked off the tournament with an 8-1 against Las Chicas United, followed by a 7-0 victory against Philly Pals. Topping their group, the team secured qualification to play in the tournament championship game.

The Lady Bandits put two goals in before halftime and though KSC fought hard in the second half — scoring two goals— they were unable to equalize and take over the lead.

KSC recognizes and congratulates the Lady Bandits for their victory.

Though it wasn’t the desired result for our team, KSC congratulates the women for their hard-fought efforts and for making it to the championship game, a great accomplishment in itself.
