In partnership with the City of Philadelphia’s Rebuild Initiative, HACE Livability Academy and Just Act, Kensington Soccer Club and members of the Kensington community gathered at Eric Casiano Field to discuss the impact that the Rivera Recreation Center & Mann Older Adult Center have had in their lives.

Individuals in attendance talked about the different ways in which the Centers were important to their lives. Parents could trust that their children were somewhere they could play safely, youth made friends who they could play with for years to come, and senior citizens talked about the community’s change over the years.

Currently undergoing a major renovation, the Rivera Rec Center has also been crucial to the club’s soccer programming.

“We rely on Rivera for indoor soccer practices at the gym, high school league games, coach training, and Winter Family Days in the Community Room,” Program Coordinator Pat Hardy said. “KSC coaches have taught soccer to children in after-school programs and run summer soccer camps. For the children of Fairhill to be able to access soccer, Rivera holds the key.”
