KENSINGTON, Pa. — Long-time KSC player and coach Brianna Banks is headed to Peru to trial for Alianza Lima Femenino and Cantolao Femenino, who compete in the first division of women’s soccer, the Liga Femenina.

“I am super excited for this opportunity to have the chance to play in front of professional coaches and women,” Banks said. “Regardless of the outcome I am grateful and blessed to receive this opportunity.”

Alianza Lima is arguably one of the most historical and successful soccer clubs in Peru. Alianza Lima Femenino were crowned champions for the Liga Femenina’s inaugural season in 2021, whereas Cantolao Femenino managed to place fifth.

Cantolao is mostly known for its youth academy, considered to be one of the best in Peru. Notable alumni include former Bayern Munich striker Claudio Pizarro, Boca Juniors defender Carlos Zambrano and 2018 MLS All-Star Yoshimar Yotún.

The creation of this Peruvian professional women’s soccer league in 2020 has contributed to the growth of women’s soccer internationally, which Banks believes can help provide more female players with opportunities to pursue a playing career.

“It’s great to see professional women's soccer grow around the world,” Banks said. “I’m excited for the girls I coach because their future soccer careers and experiences will be awesome".”

Banks will be flying out to Peru this weekend, where she will spend a week in Peru for the trials, as well as watching the teams compete in a soccer tournament.

Kensington Soccer Club is proud to have seen Banks develop over the years and accomplish many great feats throughout her soccer career. We wish her luck as she takes this chance to pursue a life-long dream!
