KSC Teen Leaders Attend Leadership Summit
KENSINGTON, Pa. — Six teen leaders from Kensington Soccer Club had the opportunity to attend the Girls Soccer Worldwide Leadership Summit from Aug. 24-27, where they learned how to build themselves up as female community leaders and student-athletes.
Victoria Alamo, Rocky Alamo, Zathdielys Davila, Micah Deane, Kieshla Lopez and Genesis Mejia were able to attend the summit thanks to a partial scholarship from Girls Soccer Worldwide and an Anti-Violence Grant from the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office.
Girls Soccer Worldwide provides teenage female student-athletes with an interactive experience so they can learn to be effective and efficient community leaders, empowering themselves and future generations. Topics covered included self-awareness, team leadership, mental health, body image, public speaking and more.
Here’s what each of the girls had to say about their experience:
Victoria Alamo: The instructors and classes were really well structured. I learned about important topics like body image as an athlete and my own personality.
Rocky Alamo: I've enjoyed everything, from the people coaching us and the things they've taught us. The classes were really informative and help open up difficult conversations.
Zathdielys Davila: We crossed over topics you rarely hear about and others that give you confidence for future needs, like empowerment, public speech, and overcoming fear.
Micah Deane: I learned so much about the kind of person I am and the leadership roles I can play, even things that I can teach to others about mental health and body image.
Kieshla Lopez: They demonstrated support to us and I've learned how to love and be aware of myself.
Genesis Mejia: I've learned to understand myself and the aspects that surround me. I hope to take this with me as I move through life and make sure everyone knows they have support.
