The Teen Leadership Initiative is a paid internship program that offers teens an opportunity to build job skills and gain leadership experience while uplifting their community.
By investing in our teens as coaches, we provide positive role models for our younger children and create a community atmosphere that values lifting each other up. As for the teens, they walk away with valuable skills that can be applied anywhere, long after their high school graduations.
WHO CAN APPLY?
Teens, 14-19 years old
RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in coaching a team in and/or help tutor kids through our Soccer Athletes Value Education (SAVE) program
Attend a coach training session before each season
Attend game days prepared to manage your teams
Assist in the setup and organization of practices and games during the week
Work with the team manager and co-coaches to run fun practice activities while teaching the kids how to play fairly and respect their teammates and opponents
Make sure that every player of all abilities gets the same chance to play and have fun
QUALIFICATIONS
Patience with children and adults
Positive, excited, and supportive attitude towards the children
Responsible and mature approach to working with kids and adults
Willingness to follow instructions and receive constructive feedback
Soccer experience not required, but is helpful
All coaches must agree to a criminal background check and child abuse clearance
COMPENSATION
Most of our teen leaders start as volunteers, but when we have open and paid contract coach positions available, we hire first from within the club.
During the summer, we hire our teen leaders through the Philadelphia’s Work Ready program to assist as coaches at soccer clinics throughout Kensington.
Tokens will be provided for interns who demonstrate the greatest need with priority given to those who work more hours
Receive coach and mentorship training, which is useful as a resume-builder
