SOCCER FOR EVERYONE
Kensington Soccer Club wants to reach every child to introduce them to the sport and to our organization so they know we welcome them and that soccer is for everyone. there for them recognized a need to provide early access to sufficient and quality recreational activity for students during their recess time and physical education classes. We do that in a few different ways.
Physical Education Classes
We developed a soccer curriculum for elementary school students that ensures that soccer skills could be learned in a supportive environment that encourages cooperation, fair play, and a healthy lifestyle. We collaborate with PE teachers in the neighborhood to deliver our curriculum to their school. In some cases, we just provide support and guidance to the PE teacher. In others, our trained and experienced coaches help the PE teacher lead soccer sessions with the students.
Whole School Events
We partner with schools to reach all their children with one-day events. In some schools, we organize a special KSC day where we work with rotating groups of students, providing a soccer clinic. In other schools, we join their existing school “fun day” at the end of the year to run soccer activities for all children as part of a larger event. In all cases, we try to distribute books, soccer balls, and shirts for the children in addition to info on how to keep playing.
Soccer For Everyone lays the groundwork for a child to take interest in soccer and other opportunities we provide. It is a program that brings soccer into schools to engage with every kid, whether it’s in PE classes or as part of a school-wide event.
In addition — if we notice that a school doesn’t have a soccer team and there’s enough garnered interest amongst students —, we can use this program to try and convince a school district to create a team.
