ABOUT:

Soccer Athletes Value Education (S.A.V.E.) is KSC’s literacy program.

KSC is dedicated to encouraging all our athletes to achieve and excel academically as well as athletically.

Reading ability is key to success in school.

So KSC begins with our youngest soccer players and their toddler siblings, providing books at soccer sessions. The S.A.V.E. program continues to give away books to participants of all ages through young adult.  Book tables are set up at soccer practices, at team events in the KSC Clubhouse, and at community events, for children and parents to select any number of books. Coaches of KSC after-school programs give books to all the children in their programs.

KSC’s soccer summer camp reading program is organized so teams of children read the same books and talk about them.  Books are given as awards at the end of a soccer season.

The books we offer give children and youth the opportunities to select books about youth like themselves, about youth from multiple cultures, about youth who are problem-solvers. We offer the best literature and award-winning books of all genres. In particular, there are many nonfiction and fiction books about soccer, which deal with resilience, perseverance, justice, self esteem, and leadership.

Our partners include BookSmiles, a nonprofit which provides most of our books and enables us to offer all books free of charge. Other partners are Tree House Books, Taller Puertorriqueno, and Read By 4th, a program of the Philadelphia Free Library.

This program is supported by partnerships with organizations that provide quality books that our athletes can see themselves in. BookSmiles in New Jersey and FirstBook provide the majority of books so students who attend our programs and events can choose as many books as they want.
