Kensington Soccer Club Overview

Kensington Soccer Club (KSC) mission is to unite the broader Kensington community with soccer and youth development programs for all, regardless of ability to pay. Our organization brings together youth from all backgrounds and incorporates academic enrichment, health and wellness education, mentorship, and violence prevention into all programming. 

KSC will be partnering with the school district of Philadelphia’s Extended School Year (ESY) program to provide enrichment activities for elementary to middle school age scholars while meeting their specific needs. Scholars who are participating in the ESY Soccer enrichment program may have an intellectual disability, physical disability, and/or sensory impairments. KSC’s ESY Soccer Special Education Assistants will work under the direction of the program supervisor and Special Education Teachers to provide extra support to scholars with special needs, promoting maximum academic and personal growth.

Schedule

Monday June 27, 2022 to Friday July 29, 2022

Programming runs Monday through Thursday from 12:30pm to 4:30pm 

Friday Professional Development 1pm to 4pm

ESY Soccer Special Education Assistants will also be asked to participate in paid professional development prior to the start date. 

Professional development includes

KSC Orientation/Onboarding, U.S Soccer Foundation Soccer Curriculum Training, CPR/First Aid Training, Concussion Training, Mandated Reporting Training, and de-escalation training, ESY coaching curriculum, and ESY logistics.

Compensation

$20 - $35 per hour (depending on experience and qualifications)

Requirements

  • Covid-19 Vaccination card

  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based upon scholar learning styles 

  • Minimum of 1 year experience working with children with special needs

  • Ideally, experience working with children in self-contained classrooms

  • Ability to support a group of 10 children who receive special service support

  • Ability to actively support the soccer coaching staff

  • Background Check: FBI Clearance and PA Child Abuse Clearance, State Background check

Responsibilities 

  • Work either as an assistant for a cohort of children or 1:1 with individual children as needed

  • Support exciting and engaging programs and activities for elementary to middle school age children 

  • Provide special service support for children who may have an intellectual disability, physical disability, and/or sensory impairment by following provisions specified in their IEPs/504 plans

  • Assist children with mobility either walking or in wheelchairs, lifting and reposition children

  • Provide support in addressing medical needs under the direction of a nurse 

  • Address communication, behavioral management, academics, fine/gross mortar, daily living skills (hygiene and toileting needs), social and community living skills

  • Assist with behavior management  and general supervision of the team in the cafeteria, schoolyard, socials, hallways, on field trips, and/or during before and after program

  • Implement the U.S Soccer Foundation Soccer for Success curriculum in all soccer activities, incorporating physical activity, nutrition, mentorship, and family engagement

  • Serve as a positive role model for youth by building strong relationships with participants and demonstrating and promoting positive and professional communication, behavior, and engagement

  • Monitor the safety and wellbeing of each child at all times through the practice if active supervision and constant engagement

  • Oversee individual child and group behavior, preventing altercations and injuries; manage classroom behaviors and overall positive learning environment

  • Provide guidance and discipline to ensure a safe and positive environment for youth 

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and fun program space

  • Assist the program director in maintaining youth files including enrollment files, attendance files and youth surveys

  • Assist in guiding teenage assistant camp counselors
